Many would have expected quiet a number of roads reconstructed and or asphalted this year when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced to Ghanaians that this year will be a ‘Year of Roads’. The excitement now seem to have turned into grief, as expectations are yet to be met.
In Takoradi of the Western Region, the story has taken a new dive. As a region that contributes about sixty (60) percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and for the President Nana Akufo-Addo, to have admitted that the region’s road network has been bad, the reward residents had expected is to have its roads done.
But this has been a mirage, particularly for road users in the capital, Takoradi.
Today, this taxi driver [whose name has been withheld] took up the challenge to fix some potholes and rut on the Paa Grant Roundabout. He couldn’t bear the frustration any longer and thus resorted to use his car to load crushed concrete and debris to fill them.
He had gone for a first loading and did the offloading and repairing works all by himself. He took the pains to arrange these concrete materials in an orderly manner and pour some fine sand over it.
This is a major road that feeds into the Takoradi Harbour, GHACEM, and other industrial sites in the city.
His effort, has made many residents recognise and celebrate him for his selfless contribution.
