The leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has dared Nana Akufo Addo to stop beating about the bush and face him in a televised debate. Mahama says his main rival in the forthcoming elections should discard his ‘Akyem Mafia’ statement and engage him in an intellectual discourse once and for all.
Calling for the debate on TV XYZ, the former president said: “You will remember that on two occasions in the recent past I’ve called for a debate with President Akufo-Addo he’s not found it worthy to respond to that call. I can understand Akufo-Addo’s frustration and desperation and deliberate attempt to whip up ethnic sentiments in this particular case. I don’t think it will wash.”
The former President said he has called for an issues-based campaign and therefore will be the last person to whip up ethnic sentiments.
“I’ve advocated a campaign of issues and that is what I’m focusing on as I engage and interact with people in my tour of this country. It is important for me to point out that no one has described his ethnic group or any other ethnic group in the manner in which the President mounts this complaint.”
